Most positions within the Virgin Islands Inspector General’s Office are in the classified service; that is they fall within the Government’s personnel merit system. The employees of the Virgin Islands Inspector General’s Office do not belong to any collective bargaining unit. They are paid on the Inspector General (IG) pay plan, and are eligible for annual pay increments. Additional benefits earned as Government employees include: (i) 20-25 paid holidays; (ii) 13 days of sick leave earned per years, with an unlimited carryover amount; (iii) 4 hours, 6 hours or 8 hours of earned annual leave per pay-period (depending on years of service) with 480 hours eligible to be carried from one year to the next; (iv) medical and dental insurance; and (v) a retirement system into which the employee becomes vested after 10 years of service.
