Virgin Islands Inspector General, Delia Thomas, delivered the agency’s proposed budget before the V.I. Legislature in August 2025. The Inspector General highlighted the agency’s achievements during fiscal year 2025, including the successful completion of audits and inspections. She also candidly discussed the challenges, such as maintenance-related issues that strained the budget, and delays in obtaining information from some agencies. V.I. Inspector General Budget Presentation FY 2025
The newly-appointed VI Inspector General, Delia Thomas, delivered the agency’s proposed budget before the V.I. Legislature in July 2024. The Inspector General outlined the number of employees in the agency. She went on to outline the training the staff received regarding auditing, inspections, and ethics. Importantly, the Inspector General stressed the need for additional Investigators for the office, highlighting the workload. The budget proposal marks a 2.7% increase from the previous year. VI Inspector General Comments on Bill to Hire a Special Investigator to Conduct an Investigation of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority
Virgin Islands Inspector General Steven van Beverhoudt submitted comments to the Virgin Islands Legislature’s Committee on Government Operations and Consumer Protection on Bill 34-0080, an act providing for the Legislature to hire a special investigator to conduct an investigation of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) and making an appropriation of $250,000 to pay for the investigation. Deputy VI Inspector General Presents Proposed Fiscal Year 2022 Budget to the Committee on Finance
Deputy Virgin Islands Inspector General Delia Thomas presented to the Committee on Finance the proposed Fiscal Year 2022 Budget for the operations of the Office of the Virgin Islands Inspector General. Deputy V. I. Inspector General Thomas is proposing a funding level of $2.8 million, which is about 10% more than the level provided in Fiscal Year 2021. With the territory still dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the proposed 2022 Budget builds on the Budget of Fiscal Year 2021. VI Inspector General Announces Plans to Retire at the Fiscal Year 2022 Budget Hearing before the Committee on Finance
Virgin Islands Inspector General Steven van Beverhoudt announced his plans to retire as the Virgin Islands Inspector General at the close of business on November 30, 2021. The announcement came at the 2022 Budget Hearing before the Committee on Finance. After suffering significant personal tragedies in July and November 2020, VIIG van Beverhoudt has decided to end his 43 years of Government service and focus on his family. VI Inspector General Presents Proposed Fiscal Year 2021 Budget to the Committee on Finance
Virgin Islands Inspector General Steven van Beverhoudt presented to the Committee on Finance the proposed Fiscal Year 2021 Budget for the operations of the Office of the Virgin Islands Inspector General. V. I. Inspector General van Beverhoudt is proposing a funding level of $2.4 million, which is about 18.5% less than the level provided in Fiscal Year 2020. With the territory dealing with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the proposed 2021 Budget maintains the status quo of Fiscal Year 2020. Virgin Islands Inspector General Steven van Beverhoudt presented to the Committee on Finance the proposed Fiscal Year 2020 Budget for the operations of the Office of the Virgin Islands Inspector General. V. I. Inspector General van Beverhoudt is proposing a funding level of $3.003 million, which is about 2% less than the level provided in Fiscal Year 2019.
